Bastar: A glimpse of a cockfight on 16 September, a popular cultural event where people bet on roosters fighting with two-inch blades tied to their feet. The crowd places bets quickly as fights don’t last longer than five to 10 minutes. During the 15-minute break between rounds, the victor collects his winning and the surviving rooster. The fight goes on from noon until dusk, with as many as 40 to 50 bouts. Spectators consume locally-brewed liquor mahua and selphi as part of the Jamboree. Photo by Shatrughan Singh/PicsWire
